The final book in the GIVER series!

Hey everyone.  I think we've all read The Giver, right?  Well did you also read Gathering Blue and Messenger?  Well if you, you'll want to get your hands on this...

Son by Lois Lowry - Unlike the other Birthmothers in her utopian community, teenaged Claire forms an attachment to her baby, feeling a great loss when he is taken to the Nurturing Center to be adopted by a family unit.

I'm putting it out on the shelf now, so be the first to get your hands on it!

Movie Monday - The Giver

Everyone's read this one, right?  I know I have...several times.  It's just so good!  Like the original dystopian novel!  Let me refresh your memory on the plot, just in case you haven't read it in a while.  The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.

There are two sequels to The Giver, Gathering Blue and The Messenger, which for some reason, I have never read.  And there is another book coming out in September titled The Son.

Now, on to the important stuff!  Here's what I know about the movie.  Now, they've been talking about making this into a movie for A Long Time.  For serious guys, this book is going to be 20 years old next year!  That's older than all of my teen patrons!  You can find a page for it on The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) and it says that the movie will be out sometime in 2013.  There is no cast information listed yet, BUT!  Jeff Bridges' name has been mentioned ALOT to play THE GIVER.  And personally, I think thats a great choice.  Here's a pic:

He'll make a great Giver, I'm sure.  But who should play Jonas?  I think that Asa Butterfield would be a great Jonas.  What do you think?

Happy birthday Lois and Louis!

Isn't that funny?  Their first names are only 1 letter different and they have the same birthday!  Anyway, randomness aside, its Lois Lowry's and Louis Sachar's birthdays today.  Here are the books we have by them~
