Volunteering at the library this summer~

Are you 12-18 and need something extra to do this summer and want to do something to help the community?  Then consider working at the Summer Reading Desk and helping out patrons.  You would be helping other patrons (children, teens, and adults) to sign up for the online tracker, helping them learn how to use it, giving out the childrens coupons, keeping track of the raffle tickets for teens and adults, cutting out shapes, promoting the program, and more!  These hours can count as community service hours if you need them for church or school.  Volunteer at least 6 hours of your time and get a t-shirt!  If your interested, then sign up at the library front desk!

Also, everyone who volunteers is invited to our end of summer pizza picnic!

Summer Volunteer Pizza Picnic (or party inside if rain!)
Saturday, August 17th 3:00-4:00pm
Pizza, cookies, drinks, music, games, and more!

Any questions?  Comment, come in, call, or email MissG!

Ice Cream Social

Hey YAs.  Sorry I haven't been posting much.  I was actually on vacation for a week and right before I went on vacation I had a little glitch with my computer and lost alot of my files.  So, I've been working hard on getting my computer straightened out and I hope to get back to doing regular postings soon!

On to the point of my post: Ice Cream!  More specifically, we're having an ice cream social this Saturday at 2:00.  We'll have different flavors of ice cream and plenty of toppings so you can build your own sundaes.  The members of the Teen Advisory Group will also be there to lead a discussion on how we can make the library better for you.  So if you'd like some free ice cream, then sign up for the TAG Ice Cream Social this Saturday!

This program is open to all young adults ages 12-18 and registration is required.
You can register by clicking the programs tab at the top of this page and scrolling down to the online form.  Or you can call (860-349-9544), email (kgardiner@durhamlibrary.org), or come in!

Hope to see  you there!

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM =)

Listen up, guys and gals, cause I have some very important ice cream related news.

Who - Young Adults ages 12-18 / in grades 7-12
What - Ice Cream Social to discuss the formation of a Teen Advisory Group for the library
When - Tuesday August 16th @ 7:00pm
Where - Durham Public Library
Why?

This yummy event is an interest meeting for the Teen Advisory Group.  We don't have one yet, but we sure are going to have one!

What does a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) do?
Well, TAG can do lots of things!  They can suggest books or other materials for the library, hold fundraisers, decorate the teen area, or make any other suggestions on how to improve the library for teens, and everyone else!  Basically, it will a place for you to have your ideas heard.

TAG would be a great extracurricular activity for many teens, it could count as community service, volunteer work, and it would look great on a college application!

So, I hope your interested.  If your not sure, why not just come for the ice cream?  You can talk if you want to, but you sure don't have to.  (Also, please don't talk if your mouth is full of ice cream)

After the social, TAG will meet once a month and there will always be a yummy snack for you growing boys and girls.  You won't have to register for those meetings, but you must register for the ice cream social.  The reason for this is, well, I have to know how much ice cream and toppings and what not to buy!

Ok, you'll find the sign up sheet at the front desk.  Or, you could call the library to register or email me.  See you soon!
