Teen Advisory Group - July Meeting

Hey YAs~

The Teen Advisory Group met on Saturday for our monthly meeting and we had plenty to talk about!

We started out discussing just how well the Summer Reading Program has been going.  TAG members have been big volunteers at the desk, so we asked around for any suggestions to help make the desk or the program better.  We did get one suggestion from a TAG member who is also a Teen Book Club member, that the TBC should have a poster at the desk to inform other teens of what we are reading.  And after I finish this blog post, that's the next thing I'm going to do!  (FYI, the TBC is reading The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson this month, a Victorian murder mystery!)  I also reminded everyone that the Volunteen Pizza Party will be on Tuesday August 7th at 7pm.

Next we moved on to discussing our plans for the now Annual TAG Ice Cream Social.  It will occur on Saturday, August 18th at 2pm and all teens ages 12 to 18 will be welcome to attend and learn what the Teen Advisory Group does, how they can join, and to share their ideas on how to improve the library for teens.  Also, eat ice cream!  The TAG members picked the ice cream flavors we will have and they are.... (drum roll please!)

Vanilla

Chocolate

Cookies & Cream

Mint Chocolate Chip

YUM!  I will also be purchasing a variety of toppings like whipped cream, cherries, sprinkles, and whatever else looks tasty!

TAG members will be making the posters to put up in the library and planning how they will run the Ice Cream Social themselves.

Next we discussed Fall Programming.  I already have several things planned, but I needed a few more to fill things out.  The TAG members made some great suggestions.  Knitting, fairy houses, crocheting, pumpkin carving, making candy/caramel apples, and jean bags were all discussed.  We also talked about what would be the theme for the Halloween Party this year and we decided just a general costume party would be popular and well attended.

Next I ran down the upcoming programs I have coming up including the Acting Workshop, Teen Cuisine, Durham Olympics (which is full but we could use some teen helpers for), CSI Murder Mystery in the Library, Vamps vs. Weres Trivia Party, the Teen Book Club, and the Henna program.

Last we moved into our recommendation portion!

Books - Everlost by Neal Shusterman, Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson, Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson, Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, and Nicholas Sparks were all recommended.

Movies and TV - John Carter, Gone, Thor, Captain America, Amazing Spiderman, Brave, and His Girl Friday were all suggested.

Music - The Fray, Augustana, Maroon 5, and Pop goes Classical were suggested.

Thanks for all your hard work TAG members!

Our next meeting will be Saturday, August 18th at 2 (The Ice Cream Social will replace our regular meeting for August)
