Registration for Summer Reading Programs opens today!

June

Summer Volunteer Orientation 1
Thursday, June 23rd 3-4pm
Ages 12-18. Orientation for young adults who are register to be Summer Volunteens.  See more information at the Summer Reading Desk.  Registration required.

Summer Volunteer Orientation 2
Saturday, June 25th 2-3pm
Ages 12-18. Orientation for young adults who are register to be Summer Volunteens.  See more information at the Summer Reading Desk.  Registration required.

Teen Summer Kickoff Lock-In
Saturday, June 25th 6-8pm
Ages 12-18. This after-hours adventure will feature teams competing to find and decipher clues that lead to the final prize.  Pizza and refreshments will be served. Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

Minecraft Club
Mondays June 27th-August 1st 3-4pm
Ages 10-18. Crafters, Creepers, and Master Builders are invited to the Minecraft Club.  Chat with other players, work together to build great things, or just play on the Library’s own server. Drop in.

Teen Cuisine: Brazilian
Wednesday, June 29th 4:30-6:30pm
Ages 12-18. In celebration of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero, young adults will prepare, cook, and eat a three-course meal of Brazilian cuisine. Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

YA Book Chat
Thursdays June 30th-August 4th 2-3pm
Ages 12-18. Every Thursday before the Farmer’s Market, drop into the Library to share what you are reading, hear about what others are reading, and explore the Genre of the Week. Drop in.

Teen Afternoon Movie Matinees
Fridays July 1st, 15th, & 29th 2-4pm
Ages 12-18. Every other Friday in July, the Library will host a movie matinee just for teens.  Popcorn and refreshments provided.  (Film schedule TBD)  Drop in.

Video Game Character Coasters
Saturday, July 9th 2:30-4pm
Ages 11-18. Participants will use Perler beads to create their own unique designs.  Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

Tie-Dye T-Shirts
Tuesday, July 12th 6:30-8pm
Ages 12-18. Participants in this classic summer craft will each get a white t-shirt to create colorful psychedelic designs. Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

Minute to Win It: Olympics Edition
Wednesday, July 20th 3:30-5pm
Ages 10-18.
Small teams will compete in a variety of games including long jump, hula hoop, marathon shuffle, bean bag toss, limbo, and minute-long challenges.  (Presented by Ingrid Schaeffer)
Sponsored by Jan Wang, in recognition of her service anniversary at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Minecraft Building Competition
Saturday, July 23rd 1-4pm
Ages 12-18. Minecraft players are invited to showcase their building skills.  Players will have a set amount of time to build on a theme before judging.  There will be small prizes and snacks. Registration required.

Durham Olympics
Saturday, July 30th 1-3pm
Ages 6-18. Participants will compete in various official Olympic events including long jump, spring, and relay races.  (Please note this event will be held outdoors) Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

August

Henna Designs
Tuesday, August 2nd 6-8pm
Ages 12-18. Participants will learn the origins of henna and get a personal design applied by the artist, Kasha N. Please note: henna will stain the skin and last 1-2 weeks.  Registration required, sponsored by PALS.

Teen Summer Closing Party
Saturday, August 6th 2-3pm
Ages 12-18. The Library will celebrate the end of our Summer Reading Program with snacks, games, music, and raffle prize drawing.  (Party and raffle prizes sponsored by PALS) Drop in.

Summer Volunteen Picnic
Friday, August 12th 2-3pm
Ages 12-18. A picnic to thank all our wonderful summer teen volunteers!  Snacks, music, games, and more!  Registration suggested, sponsored by PALS.
