Teen Advisory Group May Meeting Notes

The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) met this last Saturday for our monthly meeting.  Our snack was Ritz Bitz.  And here is what we discussed:

We started off by thanking Melanie, Clare, and Catherine for the fantastic genre signs that they made for the YA section.  Take a look next time you're in and really notice them cause they are just fab.  Next we talked about how we could decorate the YA area for the summer reading program.  Since the theme is night time, we discussed ideas like glittery stars, silohettes, silver streamers, and making a moon as a center display on top of the Graphic Novels and Hot Topics book case.  We decided to decorate the room for the SRP after the June meeting.

Last meeting I had asked the TAG members for ideas on what would be great prizes for the SRP and they gave me some great ideas.  Here are the prizes for the teens for this year:

Digital, waterproof camera
Hunger Games Beach Towel
Three $10 iTunes Gift Cards
Two $10 Carmine's Pizza Gift Certificates
Two $10 Dari Serv Gift Certificates

Next I told the members of TAG that I am getting more involved with Facebook and Twitter.  So, like my page (facebook.com/DurhamLibraryTeens) and follow my tweets! (twitter.com/DurhamTeens)

I asked members of TAG if they would be available to volunteer some time sorting books for the book sale and helping out at the book sale.  Nearly everyone volunteered to come in and help at some point.  Thanks guys!

Next we went over the upcoming program - Melted Crayon Art.  The program will be Saturday May 19th at 2pm and it is already full.

Then we went on to our recommendations discussion!  First up was programs.  Several of the girls had gone to the recent Beaded Jewelry Program and had a great time and they requested more beading programs.  Catherine even suggested that we try making beads with Polymer clay.  Maybe at the end of summer girls!  Two other program ideas were thrown out there - tye dye (always fun!) and doing a Scene It Night. (also sounds fun!)

Next we talked about books we had read recently that we would recommend.  The books mentioned were:

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Switched by Amanda Hocking
Greek Mythology

Uglies: the Graphic Novel by Scott Westerfeld

The Name of This Book is Secret by Psuedonymous Bosch

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Next up were movies & TV recommendations...

Futurama

In Time

The Muppets

V for Vendetta

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

And last, we discussed the music we all had been listening to lately...
Queen
Christina Perri

Owl City

A Fine Frenzy

Carly Rae Jepsen - "Call Me Maybe"

Colbie Caillet

Gotye

Great meeting guys&gals!  And we invite any other teens who think that they would like to share their ideas for the library to come to our next meeting.  The next meeting will be June 9th at 2pm and we'll be decorating the YA area for the SRP program after the meeting is over.  And we always have snacks :)
