Be a Summer Volunteen!

Volunteer at the Durham Public Library this Summer!

If you are between the ages of 12-18 and looking to fill your free time  this summer, then consider joining the Library Volunteen Program.  Volunteens work the Summer Reading Desk by helping patrons register and record books; handing out prizes; and performing other various jobs in a lively environment.

Summer Volunteens earn community service hours for their hard work, and celebrate together with their own special end-of-summer party.  Volunteens who work at least six hours will receive a gift bag, water bottle, and ear buds.

Summer Volunteen Registration Starts Tuesday, May 31st.

Volunteens are needed to work at the Summer Reading Desk from June 27th through August 6th.

The Summer Volunteen Picnic is scheduled for
Friday, August 12th from 2-3pm.

To sign up for this program, you simply have to come into the Library and register in our Summer Volunteer binder.  Everything is set up on a table right when you walk in and you get to choose your own hours.

Teen Volunteers Needed!

Seeking young adult volunteers (ages 12-18) to work at the Durham Public Library’s Summer Reading Desk June 29th-August 8th.

At the Summer Reading Desk young adults assist patrons of all ages registering for the program, logging their reading, handing out coupons/raffle tickets, promoting library programs, and answering general assistance questions. The volunteers can pick their own schedules to suit their needs, as volunteers are needed any time of day The Library is open. (10am-9pm Mon-Thurs and 10am-5pm Fri & Sat)

Summer volunteers are a vital part of the program at the library who in addition to earning community service hours can also earn a t-shirt for volunteering at least 6 hours. At the end of the program The Library hosts a picnic to thank our teen volunteers in the library garden.

Excellent for community service, volunteer hours, confirmation, National Honor Society, Boy Scouts, and more!

To sign up teens should come in to The Library and register in the Volunteer binder and choose the hours that they are available.

Questions or comments?  Contact Karyn Leahy, Young Adult Librarian by email (kleahy@durhamlibrary.org), by phone (860-349-9544 ext 3), or come in to the library and chat!
